1. How does the process of finding a homestay work? If you are interested in a homestay, you may call the director, Joan Cohen, at 617-277-6444, or email. We will follow up your inquiry by sending you an application form along with some more information on At Home in Boston.
2. How long in advance should I book a room with At Home in Boston? It is advisable to book as early as 1 to 2 months in advance, though this is not required.
3. What does At Home in Boston do with the information on the application form? We match your needs and preferences with those of our hosts.
4. What is the “enrollment fee”? The one-time enrollment fee is similar to a commission, but it is more than that. When you enroll in At Home in Boston, you will be attended to throughout your homestay. Should you have any questions or concerns during your homestay, you may call these to our attention, and we will do our best to address them.
The enrollment fee may be paid in several ways: By bank wire transfer, Western Union transfer, or international postal money order.”
5. Can I choose where I want to have a homestay? You can state a preferred location, and we will do our best – given space and availability – to honor your request.
6. Will I have a private bathroom? In some instances, yes. However, usually you will share with one other person, either another guest or a household member.
7. How close are homestays to public transportation? All homestays are within a 5-10 minute walk of public transportation. And, most homestays are less than 5 minutes from public transportation.
8. Why does the monthly accommodation fee vary across hosts? Some rooms are more spacious than others, or closer to places of work. Hosts are given guidelines by AHB on how much they can charge, and cannot charge more than what is stated in the guidelines.
9. Will I have internet access during my homestay? Yes, your monthly accommodation fee includes internet access.
10. Do I need to bring my own linens? No. All linens, pillows, are included.
